There are 58,318 names on the Vietnam Memorial. Each name is that of a person killed in the Vietnam War. This war is considered to be a disaster in American history. As of October 1, 2024, Russian combat losses in Ukraine amount to 654,430 troops, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Ordinary Russians must be beside themselves with grief over this truly senseless loss of nearly a full generation of young men and women.
