A reflection on "being replaced": https://nearzero.software/p/warranty-void-if-regenerated This is honestly a pretty reasonable and even desirable vision of what things might look like. I'd be pretty okay with being the local fix-it guy. I really enjoyed using my tech skills to help people solve problems when they wanted to use the college computing centers to get things done and didn't know what they didn't know. That's been valuable to me my whole career. Whenever I work with an agent I'm on the lookout for those moments where someone without my experience and insight would have stopped or taken what came out at face-value and hobbled along with a crappier solution because they didn't know which parts were weak and needed further probing. Sometimes "how would applying the X pattern using prior art Y change the value of that solution" is all it takes to wind up with something much better. It remains to be seen if the world will value the better solutions over the crappy-but-works solutions (the history of capitalism suggests no). But if that accumulated insight and know-how is useful in fixing up the crappy solutions when they break, so long as there's a living to be made at it, maybe that's okay. I don't want to be a janitor constantly cleaning up messes, but I think I'd be okay with being Harry Tuttle. https://youtu.be/VRfoIyx8KfU?si=MxwhkCmBA2IdrWEw
