Just ticked off the self-styled curator of a solarpunk visual art (still images) collection by noting that their event seeking submissions of art to said collection prohibits submissions that in any way make use of AI art, for a style of art that, in terms of aesthetics alone, has consistently looked, to my eye at the very least, like AI art, this since well before AI art was a thing.
To be clear, myself agree with the prohibition. Indeed, only days prior had written up a 10+ page essay on why prohibitions on AI art are justified. Nonetheless, in conversation with someone who objects to said rule, found myself with a clearer sense of what about solarpunk, as an ideology of aesthetics, has always felt a bit... off.
