@tranquillity@mastodon.minionflo.net @fiore@brain.worm.pink @sodiboo@gaysex.cloud @minekpo1@mastodon.catgirl.cloud @root@possum.city @solonovamax@tech.lgbt as it stands θ is just a free / unbound variable. so this expression is neither an actual rotation matrix, nor the set of all rotation matricies around the x axis in ℝ^3, but instead just a free floating expression that needs to be placed into a context to make sense. this one would generally read it as the right hand side of a function definition (if one prefers the "parameterized" view, then perhaps it helps to consider that A_θ is/can be also just syntax for function application)

@nea89@kitty.social @root@possum.city @fiore@brain.worm.pink @sodiboo@gaysex.cloud @minekpo1@mastodon.catgirl.cloud @tranquillity@mastodon.minionflo.net yeah it would be the righthand side of a function definition I just didn't want to include that bc in the context of the thread, it was just matrices without anything else language is ambiguous and can be used in a bit of a 'fuzzy' way and this was more being used in the context of language rather than a more strictly mathematical context where I'd be more rigorous
