re: https://zoner.work/notes/alilszcbzrz7000f (and many others). i’m gonna be “that girl” and spoil everyone’s fun. i know the internet finds the meowing on frequency very funny, but as an aviation person, i do not. you’re clogging up emergency frequencies which puts people’s lives in danger. if this were anything but a safety-critical frequency it would be really funny, but it’s not. afaik they specifically did it on 121.5 MHz, which is the international VHF emergency frequency for aircraft, so everyone has to have it tuned at all times. this makes the situation even worse than “regular” operational frequencies, because that frequency is specifically set aside for emergencies and it is generally assumed that transmissions on this frequency are related to emergencies. increasing the amount of non-emergency transmissions on this frequency will lead to “warning fatigue”, where seemingly-critical but actually-benign warnings are so common, people get desensitized to them over time and start ignoring them, even once there is an actual real warning about a real problem. there have been multiple accidents and incidents due to this. people have lost their lives over shit like this. also, at least some of the involved flight crews did it below flight level 100, so sterile cockpit rules apply, aka. you’re not allowed to talk about anything not related to aircraft operation and safety, especially not on frequency. if you are to believe some of the internet comments, btw., people have lost their pilot jobs and licenses about such behavior before, and i think at least serious retraining and temporary suspension is appropriate. if you don’t take your job flying hundreds of people around seriously you should not be in an aircraft cockpit.
