@thirzajane Yes, the 12 month magic period is pretty odd.
As for the age 65 thing - I've already had shingles in my early 50s and my partner got it in their late 40s!
I did check that it's still recommended to have the vaccination even if you've already had shingles.

That tiny 12 month window always seemed unnecessarily arbitrary. At 65 people can have a lot going on in their lives. A friend in ChCh forgot until he turned 66 and bingo... $800 later. My ex got shingles in her 50s and her GP put her on (funded) anti-virals for the rest of her life. She still had the odd flare-up but overall it kept the condition at bay. I wouldn't wish shingles on anyone. @thomasbeagle @thirzajane
