vision 1 / collective garden , drawn by clifford harper , radical technology (1976) where rows of houses share backyards , the land can be shared for better use and cooperative food production . the idea suggested here is to divide the area into that which remains private and that which is worked collectively . other pooled yards could have different functions - for kids , light industry etc . with such intensive cultivation , more food can be grown per acre in towns than on farms (1976) 💚

vision 2 / basement workshop ,drawn by clifford harper , radical technology (1976) designed for the basic maintenance of a large urban house with up to 20 occupants . this example includes facilities for clothes making and shoe repair , pottery , household decoration and repair , and poster making . the equipment could all run on low supplies of energy except the kiln , although the scene is imagined as a basement , it could easily be the center house workshop of vision 4 😎

I LOVE things like this. Truly if collaboration was something we worked into society, a functional intertwined in-place dense village would be SO productive, and leave lots of room for creative division of labor, rewilding efforts. In actuality we need so few species to consume and such little land, we just have to design well, and this is a cute example.
