Meh. Seems our trusty old Synology NAS has developed a case of not booting up. Wasn't on my bingo card of things that had to go wrong now, but here we are. And Synology has caught a severe case of late stage US capitalism it doesn't seem to be possible to just take the disks and put them in a newer unit as Synology now requires their own branded and expensive disks. Fucking fuck. We have backups, of course, but restoring somewhere is really annoying. #synology #nas #dystopy

@chakie@toot.community a couple things: eep, that sucks. Sorry. But also, they walked back their whole ‘must use their own disks’ thing, and when was going on, they did carve out an ‘existing customer/raid’ exemption, so you should be good. About 2 years ago now, my 8-bay Synology went tits-up, and I just emailed their support folks and they just sent me a new unit — and my unit was well out of warranty. Give them a shout, and see what happens.
