@Deepseacreatur3@thicc.horse That sounds very relevant. Okay, next up: have you ever installed nvidia's proprietary drivers on this system?
Because if you have, my guess would be that the version you have installed is not compatible with the upgraded kernel, and you need to do whatever nvidia magic is needed (sorry, I can't really help you there!) to upgrade the graphics drivers to a more recent version, and probably ideally the latest version.

@mkj@social.mkj.earth not knowingly but now that you've said it I remembered something When I let the updater run it usually lets me see all the components it wants to update and usually all components are checked. This time before it install the updates, it said that the update could be done only partially. When it showed the components to install, among other things, there was a long list of NVIDIA stuff (probably drivers and whatnot, I didn't have a closer look because I thought I could just download it)
