We're pretty much past the point of having to measure in many cases. It's not usable for everyone (for example there's no improvement in infra work in my experience), but for plain coding there's no presumption. I've finished in hours projects that involved months of slog before.

@viraptor@cyberplace.social I mean, that makes sense. You don’t need measurements, or even back of the envelope calculations, to know that it‘s faster to drive from LA to NYC than to walk. But part of the pattern I‘m noticing is that there didn‘t seem to be much measuring going on in areas where there‘s uncertainty going on or during the time period when everyone agrees they were worse at coding, like when GitHub Copilot was first released. Or for that matter, comparing using agents to not.
