My solution is often to sit but some way back (bench or gallery portable stool) but you need a relatively empty gallery to do that... most of the time, like your teacher friend, I often view from the side to reduce reflections.....

@ChrisMayLA6 The answer is simple. Instead of one light above each picture, place two lights above, one at each side. Hey presto, no reflections. But more cost, more work. Seriously, wheelchair users have enough to contend with, with whatever caused them to need the chair in the first place, without thoughtlessness where there’s an easy fix.
