Having gone through the batch, it seems that, (as the Smiths never sang): "Some Prints are Tighter than Others"
I will leave the model as it is and folks can make their own accommodation one way or another.

To prove to myself that the optics calculations are valid, here are two optical housings with yellow velum representing the sensor surface. Right is the original circular aperture with no sphere installed, left is the aperture including interfacing sphere. Light level at sensor surface is at least 50% greater with spheres installed.
