@egonw Surely it is the litreral job of drivers, and people programming {"vending machines" or "self driving cars"} to programme them to obey the relevant laws, NOT "normal practice". If human drivers break the law, they expect fines, license restrictions, jail time. So obviously the same for programmers in the same position of responsibility.
