One quibble. Parts of David’s brainworm were visible long before you noticed. His example was, in no small part, responsible for the early dearth of women in Rails, and at Rails conferences. And we (Women In Rails panel, 2009) called him on it. In retrospect, that experience just led him to hide the signs until his money & power let him give free rein to it again.

@wndxlori I was only peripherally involved / had the luxury of not being directly impacted back then, so I can only imagine/have a rough idea of the work it took back then to improve things. I alluded to this in the essay but thanks for pointing it out.

@wndxlori @phillmv Lori, is there a place we can go to read about that episode? I vaguely remember it from back when it happened, but I was a very different person then, and I doubt I allowed it to affect me as much as I should have. I'd like to give myself another go.
