depending on the coating of the fiber-optical wire, a sufficiently powerful laser could also couple onto the wire and fry the photodiodes of a CCD or any CMOS sensors.

@ferrarilegends@poa.st @Terry@poa.st @sapphire@shortstacksran.ch it could not. the cladding is glass, the core is also glass but with a different refractive index. the total internal reflection happens at the core/cladding boundary, not at the surface of the cladding.
