I do often put on “TV” in bed, which is really my desktop computer + a remote, but my brain registers it as a more passive medium at that point. There’s no temptation to open a browser and scroll a feed or anything

    @ryan@bxe.io @BaronessLoveandLight@noauthority.social Obviously there are trade-offs to passive vs. active stimuli while trying to sleep. My boomer dad fell asleep in front of a blaring television almost every day of his life. While I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, I do think the passive noise of TV, podcast, or audiobook is far less damaging than getting little dopamine and cortisol hits from notification pings during your sleep cycle. Something about knowing the noise is meant for you, combined with the impulse to interact with it.
