interesting... suspecting the spiny stem of native Rubus protects the plant from being eaten by snails
most of the eaten leaves are where the vines are touching other surfaces like walls and trees
probably Armenian doesn't get protected the same way, because it has sparser larger spines and the snail can crawl in between
