For the state timeline.. as mentioned before: I don't want to visualise tasks that can be ready/blocked, waiting, sleeping, idle, ... — I need completely arbitrary state enums per state variable. PlantUML offers a lot of flexibility, but I'd need to break down the time scale to many snippets and stitch them together. But what to use for the waveform? And Perfetto UI trace viewer seems to be made for processes, too. I've also got some VHDL testbench viewer in mind, but can't recall any name.

Saleae Logic is another great tool — to display digital (binary; high/low) and "analog" waveforms. And markers... which comes closer to what I need for events but basically for single channels only. It has a nice UI where it can blend in decoded data. I guess I want things from various worlds. 4/
