@martinvermeer thx for clarifying. I’ll be surprised if socials last another 5yrs, iibh. As an aside, I wish I could get more engagement here, but it’s my third-string platform because I don’t. I’ve tried several accounts/instances: it’s been 🦗 I just stick with my regional one, where at least people do respond, if rarely. I’m just an author who writes outside commercial molds (not indie) trying to connect with an audience. In Bsky/Substack, I’ve found them. Here? Not so much.

  • @tamarasellman Good for you that you found your community. That's a problem with user lock-in, a de-facto monopoly, by corporate social media: they are designed to make it hard to move away, and moving a community is near-impossible. It requires something as bad as what happened to X, and even then, for some communities it still isn't enough. BlueSky isn't there yet, and you'll probably have a few good years there before it too runs out of venture capital and crashes and burns. The Fediverse will still be there for you then 😁
