This is true only in the SMB2 instruction manual and has never appeared anywhere else. In Superstar Saga she insists on being called "Birdie", and in basically all other appearances she introduces herself as "Birdo" In Japanese, her name is "Catherine", and insists on being called "Cathy" in Superstar Saga
