the wiring to my ebike's integrated headlamp snapped, while I was installing a rack and basket. do bike shops like to fix that kind of electrical thing? or am I an adult that should just relearn the skills to solder/heat-shrink/whatever wires back together?

@npdoty in my town regular bike shops won't touch ebikes (some will do basic maintenance but nothing electrical some won't touch them at all) But, there's an ebike store in town that offers servicing of ebikes, so I go there

@npdoty Local bike stores (Boston area) have a number of policies that I've seen: 1. Only repair e-bike brands that they sell. 2. Will do any e-bikes that use Bosch motors, since they're trained on it and it's similar across brands. 3. Have a business specifically focused on all the e-bike brands categories 1 and 2 don't cover. However, if it's just headlight wiring snapping, some in category 1 and 2 _might_ do it I would guess even if it's brand they won't usually work on.

  • @npdoty Make sure the wires you solder together are not going to vibrate, else the solder join may crack apart. A stiff length of shrink tubing should do the trick... Good luck and have fun! 🤖
