My Latvian etymology dictionary mentions the origin of the Indoeuropean root of bu- for "cheek" (latin "bucca") as onomatopoeia of pressing your lips together, drawing air and opening them, but that's some four languages down in the origin of "buča" and "cheek" in Latvian comes from a completeley different Indo.-Eur root. Is it still onomatopoetic in Latvian or is it a Latvian word of onomatopoetic Latin origin? Where's Grok when you need it?! Or are there some living linguists around?
