We’re almost finished Stranger Things. I must admit I’m really enjoying it, despite how ridiculous it’s getting. It’s impressive how they can juggle such a large cast and keep everyone distinct and interesting (except Jonathan). And the complex setting is mostly comprehensible, helped along by Doc Brown style lectures.
The only thing that really bugs me is the heavy-handed sound design. Every object makes a massive THUNK when placed down, every flashlight goes WHOOSH as it passes the camera.

One nitpick in particular I can’t get past. In one episode, there’s a minor plot point about lightning and thunder—the sound of the thunder arrives seven seconds later. Except of course they just couldn’t help themselves adding a sound effect to the lightning as well. The lightning flashes and makes a lightning sound effect, then seven seconds later, there’s a thunder sound effect. What do they think thunder is??
