@Misofist@girlcock.club @sleepybisexual@mk.absturztau.be As an American, can confirm: It's not used as a slur over here, so we don't realize that it is across the pond. Kinda the reverse situation of 'fag' (where in the UK it's slang for a cigarette, but in the US it's instead the shortened form of a slur).

    @rosaaeterna @sleepybisexual It is still used as a slur in the US, a lot of you are just weirdly uneducated about that. Which results in it coming up in some bizarre locations. E.g. Weird Al's Word Crimes. But the meaning and usage are just like the r-slur, insulting someone's coordination or intelligence by referencing a disability. British use of fag is different, because they're completely different words that happen to be homonyms. The meanings are unrelated.

    A comparison could be drawn to 'gypsy', except that that DOES still refer to the group in question over here, we just don't realize that it's generally a word only they feel they should be using and is generally a slur elsewhere.
