@timhollo 'Critical development studies' (primarily 3rd & 4th worlds authors; please excuse my using time's language for emphasis) was a thing in Australia until Bob Hawke through AIDAB policy undermined its limited Australian practice. My memory is that the approx first 30 pages of Brazilian philosopher Paulo Freire's 'Pedagogy for the Oppressed' (1967?) defends your frame of thinking.
