@taedryn Definitely "weight lifted," because squaring "ace" with "sex/body positive" and "smut writer who enjoys flirting and horny jokes" has helped me work out why some interactions with folks do or don't give me bad brain feels, and explain why my experience with certain people gave me such an intensely negative reaction that seemed warranted at the time.
I think it's also helped my and my partner's sex life, because now she gets why I'm just not feeling it sometimes, I don't feel obligated to force things if I'm not feeling it, and when I am feeling it, that makes it better for both of us. (Not sure if this entirely squares with how she sees it, I'll ask her to chime in when she's not vidyagaming with the kiddo.)
Also, I was always disinterested in the mainstream obsession with sex, and always tried to engage with it on my own terms, so I don't know that the label of asexual really changes things. I don't feel left out by allosexual society because I've never really felt included in allosexual/cisgender/heterosexual/neurotypical society. It's just another mask I no longer have to worry about maintaining, if that makes sense?
