private healthcare sucks because business thinking contaminates every aspect of it. but it does give you a sense of how the world can't operate if people can't make their overhead.

it also gives you an appreciation for the fact that people often behave badly for unsympathetic reasons. if the person who won't pay is also doing expensive kitchen renos at the same time, it's probably safe to say it isn't an affordability issue
