Interesting — that pylon is much squatter than the ones I'm used to seeing in the UK. Is that to help it survive earthquakes? Or is that shape typical for pylons in the US?

@CppGuy Actually, by far the most common I've seen around the country are like the one to the left with the "horns" on top. These are both older styles though, and seem to be getting superceded by a single, hollow steel post design. If you zoom in, you can see them in the line to the right of this one.
