@simonbp Australia will now be talking to Gemini, Magellan, and anyone else who might have a bit of 8-ish meter telescope time for sale. Whatever we get won't be anywhere near as good as the ESO package of course, and I would put money on the Australian government failing to make a timely decision on it so that we end up with no telescope access at all for some period of time after the ESO Strategic Partnership expires.
