I decided not to have a go myself. I would not have been able to race with the kid because of the age groupings (4-6, 7-12, 13+) and that diminished the appeal, plus I've been spending more than enough time driving the two tonne electric go kart that we brought with us from Sydney. In the 9 days since we arrived in Brisbane we've racked up about 500 km, in addition to the 1000 km from the drive up.
