If you are doing Expected Gifting (birthdays, holidays, wev) you can totally keep a spreadsheet so you know who you gave what to.
Back in the day when gift-giving, hosting etc was officially women's work, middle class women (and probably upper class women's secretaries, idk) kept journals with this kind of info as well as what was served at gatherings. The work being gendered and treated as an externality sucked, but acknowledging it as a conscious endeavor: does not.
