@aral I def get where this comes from as a response to the USian liberals who see Trump as an exception, rather than a continuation of the colonial violence of the U.S. govt under all presidents since its founding. There are also, as has been said, a great many people with the mixed fortune of living inside U.S. borders that do not identify with the government, have no pretenses about its past, and experience the violence of the USian state in a way that is different from those overseas, but very much intertwined. If the liberals are going to hear you and wake up to the nature of the U.S. government, I think I would rather they join the rest of us - as individuals who don't identify with our government, but fight back against it because colonizer nations cannot coexist with peace and freedom - than have them continue to identify with their government but now from a place of guilt and with a need for atonement or redemption.
