@pathunstrom for those kinds of people: it's always fine too question rules on your own time. that's good and fine and healthy to do cause in the process you can learn why rules are in place and what rules and values are important to the community and to you. but if you join a community and then try to re-litigate every rule they established without even knowing why they exist or how they work in practice, you become a problem for those trying to run a community smoothly with limited time and energy. be respectful of other people's time and energy and make an effort to understand things before you bother them about it. also the hypothetical fringe case you're making up in your head to immediately question a rule probably doesn't actually exist in real life or isn't that fringe in the first place (see the part about where those going to bat for the freeze peach of fascists or who are going to argue why xy bigot isn't technically a fascist, etc. are going to be toxic for a community regardless of whether they themselves are fascists). if you find yourself wildly disagreeing with the rules of a community immediately that community probably isn't for you and instead of getting yourself banned trying to argue why they should change every rule for you you can save yourself and them the time and trouble and just not join. it's always fine to just leave.
