Yes, Kobo will read epubs (and some other formats), while the Kindle won't. But it doesn't work in the other direction. If you buy a book from Kobo, it won't be in the "industry-standard ePub format". Kobo uses its own modified format because of DRM. You'd have to strip the DRM before you could read it on another device. #eReader #kindle
