Years and years ago, I suddenly had an idea. I kept plants on the terrace in terracotta pots without a hole in the bottom; these pots stood in bigger pots I filled with water. These plants were the happiest plants of all! It's a similar thing.

@pascaline great idea! The only difference is that ollas keep the water underground protected from evaporation so they use water very efficiently. I can go about two weeks between refilling, even for plants this large.
