I don't think age verification will make the internet any safer for minors. I think the real problem is how most of the big social media platforms, especially Facebook don't care about privacy or anonymity even. If children were taught not to share personal information online then they would be safer online. The problem is all those big social media platforms ask for your personal information. So it kinda normalize having no privacy and age verification is yet another way to de-anonymize people and know who they are. Back then there were way less problems like that because anonymity was considered the standard online.
