@DaveMasonDotMe @bflipp DS9 was an exercise to expand the franchise universe in a meaningful way. We wanted to know more what the Federation is and what it looked like in practice. That helped build the critiques of the Federation as being unquestionably utopian. All through the space western genre lens (mostly successfully, imho)? Yes please! Strong character archetypes made it more digestible.

@DaveMasonDotMe @bflipp Voyager lacked the grit I too hoped for. I wanted to see more tests of character and tension between values and survival. We got a glimpse in episodes like Phage or those with the Equinox and Ransom. Those were strong episodes. But I found I never cared about the majority of the characters. Also, the conclusion of the series was all too convenient.
