Based on studies of muscle attachment points, palaeolithic women were on a whole lean and brawny, with a muscle mass and bone density higher than top female athletes nowadays. The figurines' pendulous breasts don't match with that, but the low waist-to-hip ratios (averaging around 0.65) could be partially explained by predominantly sitting in resting squat or kneeling positions, possibly emphasised by female steatopygia, increased fat on the buttocks/hips to meet higher energy needs. That of course assumes the figurines are anatomically correct. And yes, palaeolithic depictions are generally quite literal. Macromastia or gigantomastia, two conditions involving abnormal female breast hypertrophy are rare conditions nowadays, and they probably were back then too. And sure, sagging breasts may make sense after breast-feeding for multiple years, which probably was the norm. But why are they naked? (7/12)
