@spacehobo I'm with you; it's an unnecessarily ugly wart on an otherwise great file format. BUT, at least there are a zillion reference-quality implementations around, CSV problems can generally be debugged with one's eyeballs, and reading tabular data from them is generally a snap. Unlike "Open"XML, where THE reference implementation (Excel itself) seems to behave subtly differently than the spec would suggest, and the official .NET library is only marginally more useful than a bare XML parsing library.
I realize that it's the fate of the developer to spend more time feeling like he's going FUCKING INSANE than the average person, but a good half of my work-related sanity loss (and like 98% of my stomach lining loss) has been due to this file format.
