a while ago i had a bottle of cola (non-out-of-date sugar-free "Premium Cola" in a glass bottle, to be specific - but i've had this with Pepsi Max plastic bottles before as well). It tasted like an old house. You know, the kind of sandstone shed where grandma stores her coal briquettes? imagine that as a taste. the ultimate staleness taste that is somewhat reminiscent of dust of some sort.
this appears to happen to cola sometimes. it's often (or usually?) accompanied by a complete lack of fizziness.
i wonder, what is the cause of that taste?

apparently that's flavor oils degrading into aldehydes due to improperly fitted cap and subsequent oxidation, i guess?
