@hazelnot open standards themselves are often a way to give the pretense of democratic governance without any of the attendant controls or accountability over the exercise of power. this is a problem we also find in the fediverse

@hazelnot i don't really have a solution to that governance problem yet but in the realm of information theory and cryptography i have some specific answers that unfortunately do require ripping out the existing internet which is built upon the Internet Protocol (although much of it can be overlaid on top of the existing network, indefinitely if necessary)
