My first thought was: what changes at layer 4?
My second thought: the filament comes under tension as it begins turning the spool.
I don't know what your setup looks like; on mine I would check for binding/ resistance in the filament path, perhaps ptfe has become notched from -cf filaments or a pinch point somewhere.

@MrNick2@mastodon.social Great thoughts! It's direct drive with nothing between the extruder and the filament. I'll inspect the extruder more closely to see if there are any notches or something. It's a brand new Creality Sprite Pro extruder so hopefully it's not damaged (yet).
