Glyph names are generally script-based, not language-based, and given the technical requirements of fonts are usually most usefully derived from the Unicode character names, even though these sometimes differ from localised names in particular languages. Indeed, Unicode character names may be least useful in this respect when they correspond to language-specific names, as in the case of Sinhala, in which case the informative annotation names are more helpful.
