He knows he has exactly zero chance of winning the state when his party is the one sending murdering thugs to it's streets. Now he gets to pretend to be a good person and avoid an embarrassing loss.

Exactly. No chance of winning so why bother running. Steal what credibility you can and save your effort of sunnier weather.

I'll take a republican (maybe) having a conscience or even just abandoning a sinking ship over die hard fascists who would go down with the ship and drag as many people with them as they can. At least he's virtue signaling instead of vice signaling.
