(Hongwei Xi did GMP support in ATS2 using linear types to manage the malloc-free. This is very limiting. It doesn’t let you use GMP and MPFR types in ordinary numeric template instances. This is part of what makes ats2-xprelude so much more powerful than the plain prelude.)

You know, that isn’t really an EXPANSION phase so much as a CONTRACTION phase! Though it IS in effect where something akin to macros might be done. But this is an “orthogonal” language. It doesn’t NEED macros! :)
