Out of curiosity I've been messing around with what SteamOS would be like when the Steam Machine eventually comes out since I have a similarly specced system. Initially I set up a separate session that launches Steam in big picture mode using gamescope but unfortunately that locked me out of being able to change the system resolution and refresh rate for some reason so it was locked at 4k60Hz which caused no end of performance issues.

Despite being able to override the resolution on a per game basis I ran into quite a few games that didn't respect that override (Diablo 2 Resurrected) and even one that has no resolution option (Absolum, great game btw I highly recommend checking it out if you like Hades). Now I've found a similar way to set it up as my distro has optional packages that essentially trick Steam into running in Deck mode, which has allowed me to set the resolution at 1440p & up to 120Hz with HDR & VRR enabled.
