@tphinney @onpaperwings @behdad but as has been discussed, user beneficiary is entirely dependent on software implementation which has been inconsistent and slow. For users who use software that supports it and understand how to use it, sure, it can be a revolutionary experience. But I don't think that's the vast majority of users. Whereas companies like Google, Apple, or Microsoft quietly deliver variable fonts to tons of people who never realize it and use them just like statics. So IMO the big winners are the companies who control the infrastructure and can gain the benefits of implementation directly.
