@onpaperwings @behdad @tphinney when the tech was released, I always assumed the biggest beneficiaries would be large companies annnnnd I think that has been largely true.
More capabilities in a smaller file size—"bigger on the inside".
VARC and avar2 feel like a further example of getting more for less.

@sajatype @onpaperwings @behdad The file size part? Sure, big companies benefit. (Or: entities whose websites have lots of traffic and pay for bandwidth used by their fonts. Mostly big companies.) The design side? Anybody who cares can take advantage of those capabilities. My own love for variable fonts as a design solution has been unrelated to whether I happen to be working for a large company.
