@ngaylinn Thanks for sharing, some food for thought here, but I think the author is not as serious as they may like to look. The most notable example is when he claims Alice's and Bob's meetings would go the same. A decent supervisor should notice that a student is not understanding the topic they are studying (code they "wrote", papers you assigned, ...). It probably says more about the author's approach to supervision than the real world.

    @modrak_m @ngaylinn indeed, I am aware of at least one analogous case to the "example" in the article... and it was very obvious at an early meeting that "Bob" had no understanding of the outputs they were discussing

    @modrak_m Agreed. There are a few things strange about this story, and I wouldn't make the save decisions, but I think he does a good job describing the dilemma.
