In the book, Stuart Little, Stuart isn't adopted. He's a human boy who just looks exactly like a mouse and is the size of a mouse as well. Some people might have a problem with this: a story where no explanation is ever given as to how a human could look like a mouse from birth, or how the fact that this happened isn't the entire focus of the plot. I think we need more stories that take big swings like this. If this story came out today, it would be set in a science fiction dystopia where unwitting human women are being experimented on to give birth to anthros.
